IN THE ARMS OF
THE ENEMY
By Lisbeth Eng
The Wild Rose Press
SUMMARY:
Isabella Ricci has pledged her life for the cause - to free Italy from
Nazi oppression. Her mission for the Resistance, to seduce a German officer
into revealing military secrets, could be deadly. Can she complete her
assignment before losing her heart...or her life?
Isabella wasn’t used to
such elegant surroundings and took care not to slip on the polished marble
floor in her borrowed shoes. If I fall
I’ll never pull this off, and I’d probably rip Silvia’s dress in the process. She
almost laughed at the thought, but it was apprehension, not amusement, she
felt.
On the stone terrace, she
leaned against the outer wall and drew a long breath. The view of the exquisite
gardens below did nothing to ease her tension. Perhaps a little food would help. As she turned and looked up,
hoping to spot a nearby waiter, she realized she was being observed. He was an
officer, tall and dark-haired, probably in his late twenties. She noted from
the insignia on his tunic that he was a captain in the German Army.
“Buona sera, signorina,”
he said with a courteous smile, and tipped his glass in her direction.
To Isabella, the soft
tone of his German-accented Italian seemed at odds with the severity of his
Wehrmacht uniform. “Buona sera,” she responded, then quickly turned away. Was
it revulsion for the enemy or simply shyness that induced her retreat to the
salon? I’ll need to overcome both if
I’m to succeed tonight.
